As I have said many times before, there are no accidents. The other day I was scrolling through Facebook and came upon a fun little gizmo from Lighthouse Catholic Media to find out which saint if living today would be my friend. Well, I got St. Monica, who I absolutely love! Actually, my husband and I were going to name our 4th child Monica Anne but changed it to Margaret Anne because his father made a comment about the Clinton incident (1998), if ya know what I mean. Anyway. I was glad to see that I would be friends with St. Monica (I do have a really good friend Monica but she does not have a son named Augustine). And speaking of her son, my son got St. Augustine as a friend. How 'bout that? And today while reading my small retreat section from "I Believe in Love" by Fr. Jean C.J. d'Elbee about abandonment, I read the story of when Augustine wanted to go to Rome and his mother did not want him to go without her. He actually tricked her into going to spend the night in a place near the ship, while he "stole away without her." "And what was she praying for, O my God, with all those tears but that you should not allow me to sail! But you saw deeper and granted the essential part of her prayer. You did not do what she was at that moment asking, that You might do the thing she was always asking."
"God refused to grant her the prayer she prayed on that day, in order to grant her the prayer she prayed every day."
